Worth stating plainly: three large bags is also what a Corolla takes in our economy class. What you are choosing here is the car around the luggage. The Lexus ES runs to 4,975 mm against the Corolla's 4,630, and the cabin space, the ride and the quiet at motorway speed are what the class is actually for.
Where the published figures run out
Lexus publishes 454 litres for the ES boot, identical across the ES 250, ES 300h and ES 350. Ford publishes engine and seating data for the Taurus in this market but not its boot volume, and Toyota publishes no luggage figure for the Avalon in the Gulf. Where no manufacturer figure exists we carry our own operated one and say so, rather than borrowing a number from another market.
Which of the three to ask for
All three seat four and take three large bags, so the decision is about the drive rather than the load. The ES 350 has a 3.5-litre V6 at 300 hp and the ES 300h a hybrid; the Taurus is offered with a 2.0-litre EcoBoost at 239 hp or a 1.5-litre hybrid. Any of the three is a comfortable intercity car.
